An original knitting pattern for a hat with a cycling motif from Bensonsrags.
I was inspired by the visit to North Yorkshire of the Tour de France in 2014.
It is a loose fitting hat with a motif of a racing cyclist. It would be a great gift for any cyclist. The hat in the photo is knitted using Debbie Bliss British Wool Yarn and Blue Faced Leicester from West Yorkshire Yarn Spinners
It is made using double knitting wool on size 3.75 mm needles.
Quantities of yarn required: 2 x 50 g balls of yarn in the main colour and a small quantity of contrasting yarn for the cycling motif.
The knit is an intermediate knit where some experience is required.
The hat has a 2x2 rib on the band and stocking stitch for the main body of the hat.
To knit the motif, you need to twit the 2 colours of yarn around each other when going from one colour to the next. I have used the intarsia method where a different ball of wool is used for each area of colour rather than stranding the yarn across the back of the work.
It is rewarding to knit: watching the bike appear as you advance up the pattern.
